Washington requires that all undergraduate licensed registered nurses attend a graduate program approved by the Washington State Board of Health.
Graduates of a Master of Science in Nursing Program (MSN) are eligible to apply for an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) License. MSN programs in Washington offer many tracks, including Nursing Leadership, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Nursing Informatics.
Online MSN and FNP Programs in Washington
The following schools offer Master of Science in Nursing programs. There are many programs available in Washington, but the following emphasize online learning. The following schools are all approved by The Washington State Board of Health.
Gonzaga University
This program offers the following tracks: Nursing Leadership in Healthcare (NLH), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). All three MSN programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). All courses within the tracks are 8, 12, or 16 weeks long.
The NLH program can be completed in six semesters. It is taught online, requiring only 2 days of campus visits. The FNP and PMHNP program can be completed in 9 semesters. They are flexible online courses, requiring 5- 6 campus visits.
The Buntain College of Nursing of Northwest University
This program offers the following career tracks: Nurse Administrator, Nurse Educator, Nurse Entrepreneur, and Nurse Researcher. They accept applications in the fall, spring, and summer. This program can be completed in 5 semesters or about 18 months. This course is taught entirely online and offers multiple ways to receive the 100 needed practical experience hours.
University of Washington Bothell
This program the following tracks: Nurse Educator, Administrative Leadership and General Master of Nursing. The program can be completed in two or four years. The courses consist of core classes, 100 hours of fieldwork, a capstone project and a public presentation at the Master of Nursing Symposium.
The program accepts applications once per year in August. All courses are hybrid based and designed to be compatible with working during courses. They require meeting in person five timers per quarter with the remaining coursework done online.
Western Governor's University
This program offers two tracks: Nursing Leadership and Management and Nursing Informatics. All coursework is done online. Field practice requirements are accomplished on work sites. The Nursing Leadership and Management is 8 courses long and can be completed in 24 months. The Nursing informatics program can be completed in 18 months.
