Alaska is part of the Nursing Licensure Compact. Nursing Licensure and prescriptive authority can be obtained through Alaska's State Board of Nursing. License renewals occur every two years, depending on the type of degree the nurse holds. A master's degree is required to obtain a certified nurse practitioner license.

Nursing Certification and Licensing

Graduates from the UAA MS Clinical programs can opt to complete certifications after graduation.

FNP graduates may take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). PMH-NP graduates may take the ANCC psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner-family certification. Alaska is a Full Practice Act state for NPs, meaning NPs are able to perform independently from physicians in regards to patient treatment.
